TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa woman was given three life sentences and her boyfriend was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the abuse of their infant twins.

The Tulsa World reports the man and woman, both 25, were sentenced Wednesday. They had pleaded guilty to two counts of child neglect and one count of permitting child abuse by injury. The Associated Press is not naming the couple to protect the children’s identities.

Authorities say the mother took one of her 34-day-old babies to a hospital for leg swelling in January 2014. Police say tests showed the child had an arm fracture, two broken legs and a skull fracture with brain bleeding. The child’s twin was then removed from the home and tests showed the child had multiple skull fractures.

Assistant District Attorney Sarah McAmis said the children are now in a new home.
