LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A former security guard at the Federal Building in Little Rock is accused of submitting 24 fraudulent claims to the Arkansas Department of Human Resources to receive nearly $580,000.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1htUbY8 ) reports 49-year-old Maria Carmen Nelson was charged Wednesday with one count of wire fraud conspiracy and 20 counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors say Nelson submitted the claims as a sponsor for the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program administered by the state agency and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Officials say the claims were submitted between March 2012 and September 2014, and Nelson was approved as a sponsor by Michael R. Lee, who has also been indicted in connection to the case.

It was not immediately clear if Nelson has an attorney.
