RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Two bars and the mother of an Asheboro man have been added to a lawsuit filed in connection with a head-on collision that killed three people on Interstate 85 in July.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (https://bit.ly/1igZoDu) search warrants cite witnesses as saying 20-year-old Chandler Michael Kania drank alcohol at a party on July 18 before visiting two bars in downtown Chapel Hill.

The lawsuit also argues Stephanie Kania is liable because she and her husband, Michael, jointly owned and maintained the Jeep involved in the accident. Michael Kania as well as Chandler Kania were already named in the lawsuit.

Investigators say the younger Kania drove his vehicle the wrong way on Interstate 85 near the Interstate 40 split in Orange County, killing three people, including a 6-year-old.
