BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Charges have been upgraded against a man who authorities say assaulted two deputies and claimed his vehicle contained explosives.

Media outlets report Hancock County sheriff’s deputies arrested 32-year-old Safa Alidoust, of Layette, Louisiana, early Sunday. He is charged with false reporting of an explosive device associated with terroristic threats and two counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.

The aggravated assault charges were upgraded from simple assault, which Alidoust was initially charged with.

Chief Deputy Don Bass says the incident occurred near the Louisiana state line where deputies found a shirtless man standing beside a vehicle.

Bass says Alidoust charged at the deputy, yelling in what the deputy believed to be Arabic.

Alidoust is lodged in the Hancock County jail. It wasn’t clear if he has an attorney.
