COLD SPRING, N.Y. (AP) - Divers have recovered the body of a man who drowned in the Hudson River while swimming with his friends off Little Sandy Beach in the Hudson Highlands State Park near Cold Spring.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Rafael Cubano, of Beacon, was with a group of relatives and friends swimming in an area not protected by lifeguards at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say he became separated from the group by strong currents and called out for help but went under before his companions could reach him.

His body was found two hours later about 150 feet from shore.
