CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina’s longtime Women’s Tennis Association event is getting a new name.

Meredith Corporation announced Monday that the previously named Family Circle Cup will be the Volvo Cars Open. The event was known as the Family Circle since it began in Hilton Head Island in 1973. The tournament moved to Daniel Island in Charleston in 2001.

Volvo Cars recently announced its first North American factory will be built in South Carolina’s Berkeley County.

Despite the name change, the tournament will continue to be owned and run by Charleston Tennis, LLC, a subsidiary of Meredith Corporation, which publishes Family Circle Magazine.

The Volvo Cars Open will take place from April 4-10 on Daniel Island.
