GARLAND, Texas (AP) - A Texas educator has apologized for his Muslim remarks at the same site where two gunmen were killed trying to ambush police during a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest.

WFAA-TV (https://bit.ly/1Q67U3z ) reports Garland Independent School District Superintendent Bob Morrison apologized Monday.

Police on May 3 killed two gunmen who had opened fire outside the Curtis Culwell Center.

School board president Larry Glick recently went to Africa and participated in the Aug. 20 convocation at the center, days before classes began. Glick wore a fake beard, a safari hat and a long cloth on his head.

Morrison said Glick was lucky, dressed that way and with police present, that “bad things didn’t happen to him out in the parking lot.”

Khalid Hamideh with the Islamic Association of North Texas says Morrison should resign.
