PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A Port Huron hospital is getting a new name and facility upgrades as part of a sale.

The Times Herald reports (https://bwne.ws/1KCpVGr ) St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron is expected on Tuesday to become the Lake Huron Medical Center. That follows Monday’s announcement that Prime Healthcare Services had completed the purchase from Trinity Health.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette wrote in a report last week the sale allows the hospital to continue to operate, pay off debts and obtain financing for improvements. Trinity says it was dealing with geographical isolation, declining population and local competition.

Schuette says an independent firm will monitor the hospital during the next five years to ensure that Prime follows the agreement, including stipulations it will make $20 million in improvements and offer jobs to all employees.
