YORK, S.C. (AP) - A Rock Hill woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in a plot against a grandfather she said abused her.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported (https://bit.ly/1LHr2TZ ) that 22-year-olod Kaylan Whiteside pleaded guilty Monday to burglary and attempted murder.

Prosecutors say Whiteside was the mastermind in a plot that led to 71-year-old Wayne O. Whiteside Sr. being shot and wounded at his home outside Rock Hill last year.

Wayne Whiteside was not in court Monday. His sister said he had several surgeries since he was shot.

Defense attorney Stuart Axelrod said his client was treated for mental illness and tried to kill herself three times because of abuse by her grandfather.

Wayne Whiteside had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery in 2005.
