RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Transportation department officials in North Carolina say they’ve been forced to change the schedule for the ferry that operates between Southport and Fort Fisher.

Department spokesman Tim Hass said in a statement that the new, one-boat schedule, started Tuesday. Hass said mechanical issues forced the change.

The ferry will now depart Southport at 5:30 a.m., 7 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 4:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

The ferry will leave Fort Fisher for Southport at 6:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The normal schedule will resume as soon as a second boat is available.
