ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue teams are searching for a hiker missing in the Sandia Mountains since last weekend,

The family of 40-year-old Bryan Conkling says the Rio Rancho resident is a paramedic and an experienced hiker.

Conkling went on an overnight hike on the La Luz Trail on Saturday.

When he didn’t return home by Sunday night, a family member reported him missing.

Search crews on Monday found Conkling’s vehicle parked at the La Luz trailhead along with items belonging to him in an area off the trail.

A ground and air search continued Tuesday.

Canine teams are being used due to rugged terrain with jagged inclines, deep canyons and rocky peaks along with dense vegetation.
