PHOENIX (AP) - Last month went into the record books as one of the hottest Augusts for Phoenix.

The National Weather Service reports that the average high temperature in Phoenix in August was 107.7 degrees, making the month the second warmest August and putting it well above the normal average temperature of 104.4 degrees for the month.

Similarly, the average temperature in August was 96.6 degrees, also making the month the second warmest August. The month’s normal average temperature is 93.6 degrees.

Phoenix set record highs of 117 degrees on Aug. 14 and 115 degrees on Aug. 15.
