ATTORNEY GENERAL RETAINS ANOTHER LAWYER

Kathleen Kane hired lawyer James Mundy to look into disciplinary matters for her as she fights criminal charges. Neither the lawyer nor Kane would say whether the state Supreme Court has notified her that it is moving down a fast-track process that could result in the suspension of her law license.

FORMER LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD MARKETING DIRECTOR HAS FEDERAL PLEA DEAL

Records show James H. Short Jr., of Harrisburg, has signed an agreement to plead guilty to honest services mail fraud. He’s accused of taking cash and gifts from suppliers.

STATE’S TOP COURT WON’T HEAR APPEAL OF RULING GRANTING NEW TRIAL IN BLAZE THAT KILLED THREE FIREFIGHTERS

As a result, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. has vowed to retry Gregory Brown Jr. The 38-year-old had been serving three life terms in the February 1995 fire before a judge ordered a new trial last year, saying prosecutors failed to tell the jury that two witnesses received reward money.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY TO ADDRESS OFFICER’S SUICIDE

Susquehanna police Sgt. Ronald Reinhart Jr. killed himself after a standoff yesterday in Carroll. Police had arrived at Reinhart’s home to arrest him on charges that he staged a jewelry theft in July so he could frame someone else.

PUBLIC VIEWING SET FOR FORMER PHILADELPHIA 76ERS STAR DARRYL DAWKINS

Today’s viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catasauqua. Dawkins was the first player to go from high school into the first round of the NBA draft. He died last week at 58.
