WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) - Whittier police say nobody was hurt when an officer opened fire after a passenger of a car he pulled over pointed a gun at him.

Officer John Scoggins says two men in the car took off running following the traffic stop late Monday along Whittier Boulevard.

Scoggins says witnesses reported one of the men returned fire as he ran away.

Police arrested one of the men and are searching for the other.

Two other people in the car, a woman and a girl, were being interviewed by detectives early Tuesday.

Officials didn’t say why the car was initially pulled over.
