STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has been killed and her teenage son hurt after being struck by a car while trying to cross a Detroit-area street.

Sterling Heights Police Lt. David Smith says a 47-year-old woman was pushing her 15-year-old son Monday evening in Sterling Heights when a red Cadillac struck them and drove away. The boy was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Smith says a 22-year-old man who lives in the suburb has been arrested in connection with the case and the car was recovered in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.
