STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbings of his grandfather and uncle in suburban Detroit.

A day after the attack, the young man’s grandmother was in a hospital Tuesday with her own stab wounds.

Marcus Kragness appeared in court by video from jail and expressed surprise that he was denied bond. A defense attorney hasn’t been assigned yet.

The victims are 79-year-old Jerome Pastuszak and 44-year-old Mark Pastuszak. They were found Monday at their home in Sterling Heights. Police say Kragness had been living with them for just a few weeks after relocating from North Carolina.

Sandra Pastuszak, who survived the attack, called police about 12:30 a.m. Monday to report that her grandson was out of control.
