ALBANY, Ore. (AP) - Detectives have arrested an Albany man accused of killing his ex-wife.

Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley said Thursday that 57-year-old William McDonald was booked into jail on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Riley identified the victim as 54-year-old Vera Converse. McDonald and Converse were divorced in 1994, but the two had been living on the same property for the past five years.

Converse was found dead Wednesday after emergency dispatchers got a pair of phone calls from a home. In the first call, yelling could be heard before the line was disconnected. The second call came from a man who said he killed someone.

The sheriff says an autopsy is planned.
