Appalachian State (1-0) at No. 12 Clemson (1-0), 12:30 p.m. (ESPN3)

Line: Clemson by 17

Series Record: Clemson leads 4-0

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Clemson is seeking to move to 2-0 for the fifth time in six years. Appalachian State is in its first year as a full-fledged member of the Football Bowl Subdivision in the Sun Belt Conference. The Mountaineers went 7-5 last season playing several Sun Belt teams although they were not eligible for a bowl game.

KEY MATCHUP

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson against the Appalachian State defense. Watson was extremely efficient last week, completing 18 of 22 passes for 194 yards and two TDs. He led touchdown drives on all five series he played in a 49-10 win over Wofford last week. The Mountaineers gave up 347 yards a game in their debut FBS season, which would’ve made them 25th nationally had they not been reclassifying to the higher division.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Appalachian State: RB Marcus Cox ran for 105 yards on 11 carries, an average of better than 9 yards a run. He also had a 68-yard TD run against Howard.

Clemson: WR Ray-Ray McCloud led Clemson with eight catches for 80 yards. He could be in line to make an even bigger contribution with top receiver Mike Williams sidelined with a neck fracture.
