RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Colonial Downs’ future remains uncertain following unsuccessful talks between the racetrack and Virginia horsemen.

Media outlets report that Colonial Downs officials proposed three options on Wednesday to the Virginia Racing Commission. The options include converting the 600-acre property in New Kent County into a golf course community.

Colonial Downs officials also proposed leasing the track to the Virginia Equine Alliance. The non-profit group of horse racing associations aims to promote and expand horse racing and breeding in Virginia.

The third option is for the racing commission to redirect funding to the racetrack.

Colonial Downs surrendered its license last fall after it couldn’t reach an agreement with the horsemen.
