TUXEDO, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Hudson Valley woman has died after she failed to make a turn on a winding road and drove off a 50-foot-deep ravine to her death.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (https://bit.ly/1IZEHBk ) the 59-year-old victim, who wasn’t identified, died around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday after plummeting down a ravine in the town of Tuxedo.

A witness told police the victim’s vehicle went straight instead of properly turning on the stretch of road on state Route 17 referred to as the “S turns.”

Police Chief Patrick Welsh says it’s possible the Harriman woman fell asleep at the wheel or suffered a massive medical emergency.

Welsh says the medical examiner would make a definite conclusion.

Emergency personnel initially believed the victim had a passenger in the vehicle but later determined that to be false.
