WASHINGTON (AP) - The nonprofit group Essentials in Education says students need to learn more about the U.S. Constitution.

The organization is launching a national constitutional literacy campaign Thursday in Washington.

CEO Chuck Stetson says the nonpartisan effort is aimed at better educating Americans about the importance of understanding the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

The group also is releasing a series of interactive educational materials called the “Freedom in America Series.”

Stetson says understanding these historical documents is critical to becoming a productive citizen and enjoying the freedoms that many take for granted.
