GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a former sheriff’s captain is accused of assaulting employees of the department.

Local media reports that 51-year-old David Gibson surrendered at the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office where he was arrested around 10:20 a.m. Thursday.

GBI spokesman Frederick J. Wimberly said in a statement that Gibson has been charged with aggravated assault, influencing witnesses, stalking, public indecency, sexual battery and violation of oath of office. He was also charged with two counts each of simple battery and aggravated sexual battery.

Wimberly says the investigation is ongoing.

Gibson, of Milner, is being held at the Clayton County jail. It’s not clear whether Gibson has a lawyer to contact.
