MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The group Friends of the Winooski River is planning a river cleanup this weekend with junk pulled from the water destined to become sculpture.

Saturday’s clean-up will focus on the Winooski and three branches - the Stevens Branch, the North Branch and the Dog River.

Following the river cleanup, over the next several days and culminating on Monday, September 21, art students from Montpelier High School will use the objects removed from the rivers to create sculptures on the school grounds.

Some of the sculptures also will be on display at the Montpelier farmers’ market on Sept. 26.
