MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Madison police say a driver had been “huffing” fumes from a spray can before he struck and killed a pedestrian.

Fifty-one-year-old Anthony Minardi was fatally injured while he was walking down a sidewalk Saturday morning.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says the driver, a 36-year-old Madison man, was inhaling fumes from a computer cleaning spray while he was driving, and lost consciousness for several seconds before his car jumped the curb and struck Minardi. The suspect drove off but was stopped a short distance away.

Officers booked the suspect into the Dane County Jail pending formal charges after he was released Tuesday from a hospital where he was treated for a medical condition unrelated to the crash.
