WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman are leading Connecticut’s annual remembrance of 9/11.

Residents, family members of the victims and others will gather at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, the site of the state’s official memorial. It’s on a peninsula where residents gathered to watch as the World Trade Center towers were destroyed in lower Manhattan across Long Island Sound.

The site also was used as a staging area for Connecticut’s relief efforts to help New York City.

The names of the 161 victims with ties to Connecticut will be read aloud during the ceremony.

Since 2002, Connecticut’s official annual memorial ceremony has been scheduled for the evening before the Sept. 11 anniversary to accommodate family members.
