BOSTON (AP) - A Boston cyclist who says he frustrated with the city’s slow roadway improvements is taking matters into his own hands.

The Boston Globe reports (https://bit.ly/1O2F8CM ) Jonathan Fertig placed six potted plants and orange traffic cones on a portion of Massachusetts Avenue on Sunday where a surgeon was killed last month. He’s raised more than $1,100 to construct more so-called “flower lanes” that prevents drivers from using the bike lane for turning.

The city says plastic posts will replace the flower pots and cones on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the Boston Transportation Department says the department cannot condone placing objects on the roadway, adding that doing so could hinder people’s safety.
