WEBSTER, Texas (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison in the killing of his mother at a Webster flower shop in 2013.

Mark Dickey was sentenced Wednesday in the death of 68-year-old Brenda Dickey on June 15, 2013. He had been found guilty of first-degree murder and faced up to life in prison.

According to authorities, Dickey shot his mother, who owned the flower shop, in the back of the head as she reached into an open safe.

Police say after the shooting, Dickey called authorities and reported the store was being robbed.
