CLIVE, Iowa (AP) - A 50-year-old man has been given 50 years in prison for stabbing to death another man in Clive.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/1XOZ8fF ) that Stephen Jonas was sentenced Wednesday in Polk County District Court. He’d been convicted of second-degree murder in the slaying of 21-year-old Zachary Paulsen. Authorities say Jonas stabbed Paulsen in a lot behind Paulsen’s family’s contracting business in Clive on Aug. 23, 2014.

Prosecutors say Jonas attacked Paulsen after a night of drinking at a bar and after Paulsen rejected a sexual advance by Jonas. Jonas’ attorney says Jonas was defending himself because Paulsen tried to hit Jonas with a hammer.
