NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been awarded $2 million after he was shot multiple times by a New London police officer following a chase in which he stole and crashed an ice truck.

Curtis Cunningham was shot four times on Aug. 24, 2011 after a chase through the city that led to a crash. Cunningham was unarmed and standing in the overturned ice truck when the officer yelled for him to drop his weapon. Tests showed Cunningham had PCP in his system at the time.

Attorneys say one of the bullets left Cunningham paralyzed and requiring a wheelchair.

The Day of New London (https://bit.ly/1MduaKs ) reports that the city council unanimously agreed to its insurance carrier’s proposed settlement following a closed-door meeting Tuesday. The city will pay a $25,000 deductible.
