MIDDLETON, R.I. (AP) - Authorities say more than $5,000 was stolen from a youth football league in Rhode Island.

The Newport Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/IX5CGL ) the theft at the Pop Warner League’s concession and storage shack near Gaudet Middle School in Middleton occurred between late Sunday and Tuesday afternoon.

Janetta Donovan, the league’s secretary, says she believed the money would be safe when she stored it Sunday behind two locked doors. League representatives discovered the theft Tuesday when they returned to the shack.

Police say a crowbar was used for the break-in and Donovan says the thieves knew where to go.

The president of the Portsmouth Pop Warner League offered his construction company repair to the damage.

Police are investigating.
