WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police say officers stopped to help a pair of men with a broken down dirt bikes and discovered one man had failed to return to a work release center after a furlough.

Officers stopped to help the men Tuesday evening near 8th and North Walnut streets. Police say they found that 21-year-old Qasim Williams was an escapee from the Plummer Center and he and 24-year-old Arthur Hawkins of New Castle were taken into custody. Police say Hawkins had a handgun with an obliterated serial number and the bike Williams had was reported stolen.

Hawkins was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, driving while suspended or revoked and other offenses. Williams was charged with receiving stolen property and other offenses and booked on his escape warrant.
