HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) - A South St. Paul man is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a 45-year-old woman last month.

A Dakota County grand jury indicted 58-year-old Thomas Luby on charges of first- and second-degree murder in the death of Kelly Ann Anderson, also of South St. Paul.

Investigators say Luby called 911 early Aug. 7 to report a dead woman in his home. He claimed he had stabbed the victim in self-defense.

Police found Anderson’s body on the living room floor, with a kitchen knife in her hand. Luby told police the two had been drinking and that Anderson became upset at him for hiding the bottle and stabbed him. Two small cuts were found under Luby’s chin.

Luby remains in jail. He’s scheduled to appear in court Monday.
