Utah State (1-0) at No. 24 Utah (1-0), 9:00 p.m. (ESPN2)

Line: Utah by 13 ½.

Series Record: Utah leads 78-29-4.

The Utes moved into the Top 25 after beating Michigan 24-17 in the season opener. Utah has hopes of being a player in the Pac-12 and being taken seriously around the nation. A win against the Wolverines was a strong first step, but Utah doesn’t want to regress against the in-state rival. Utah State was predicted to finish second in the Mountain West Mountain division behind Boise State. A win over an in-state rival about 82 miles away would resonate in recruiting and reputation.

Utah RB Devontae Booker posted 124 total yards against Michigan, but was held to 69 on the ground. Coach Kyle Whittingham credited Michigan’s defense, but the Utes want much more from the run game and Booker, who ran for 1,512 yards in 2014 with just nine starts. Utah State counters with two preseason all-conference LBs in senior Kyler Fackrell and junior Nick Vigil.

Utah State: QB Chuckie Keeton. The senior entered this season with high expectation after missing most of 2014 with a knee injury. Keeton set single-season school records as a sophomore in 2012 with 27 touchdown passes, 3,373 passing yards and 3,992 total yards. Injuries cut short his last two seasons.

Utah: QB Travis Wilson. Consistency had been an issue, but the 6-foot-7, 233-pounder was extremely efficient against Michigan with 208 passing yards and a 72.7 completion percentage along with 53 rushing yards with a touchdown.

The series began in 1892 and is the 14th-longest among all FBS schools. … Utah DE Jason Fanaika and LB Sharrieff Shah Jr. both started their college careers at Utah State before transferring. … Keeton is two touchdown passes from tying the school career record of 60. … Utah State OL Tyshon Mosley, WR Hunter Sharp and CB Bryant Hayes will serve the second game of a two-game suspension for a violation of team rules. Mosley and Sharp are returning starters. … Suspended Utah CB Domonique Hatfield was reinstated this week. It’s unclear when he will return to the lineup.
