SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A Vermont couple charged with abducting the woman’s granddaughter and taking her to New York last week says they won’t fight extradition.

Forty-seven-year-old Dawn Hutchinson and 61-year-old Joel Rosenthal, both of Waitsfield, Vermont, appeared Wednesday in Onondaga County Court in Syracuse.

Investigators say Hutchinson refused to comply with a court order and planned to take her granddaughter to Illinois.

Attorney Charles Keller says the couple took the girl to New York to attend a funeral. Keller says they planned to bring her back to Vermont for a custody hearing scheduled for this Friday.

The couple was arrested Saturday after New York State Police found them along with the 4-year-old girl on Interstate 90 in Dewitt, outside Syracuse.

Hutchinson and Rosenthal are both charged with custodial interference and unlawful restraint in Vermont.
