FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - Fort Jackson’s Drill Sergeant Academy is hosting a commemoration of the service’s 51-year-old program.

Friday’s celebration begins with an early morning run, inductions into the drill sergeant hall of fame and tours of the grounds of the Drill Sergeant Academy.

Those named the 2015 Drill Sergeants of the Year for active and reserve units, and the advanced individual training Sergeant of the Year, are being recognized at a special dinner Friday evening.

The Army established the Fort Leonard Wood Drill Sergeant School in Missouri and began training noncommissioned officers for drill sergeant duties in September of 1964.
