ATLANTA (AP) - The general manager of the Cleveland Orchestra has been named the new executive director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Symphony officials announced Thursday that Jennifer Barlament will replace Terry Neal, who took on interim leadership responsibilities for the symphony in 2014. Barlament starts January 2016.

Barlament has served as general manager of the Cleveland Orchestra since 2013. She served as executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2013. She also served as general manager of the Omaha Symphony in Nebraska from 2002-2009.

Barlament received her bachelor’s degree in music from Emory University. She also earned her master’s degree in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York.

She was awarded the Helen M. Thompson Award by the League of American Orchestras.
