LEMMON, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota city of Lemmon is celebrating a healthy business climate with a block party on Friday.

Mayor Neal Pinnow tells KBJM-AM that the town near the North Dakota border benefits from a strong agricultural economy, young people moving into the community and a “can do” attitude by community leaders and businesses.

Pinnow cites the recently completed $2.2 million reconstruction of Railway Street on the north edge of town as an example. The project was completed with the cooperation of three local governments, the city of Lemmon, Perkins County in South Dakota and Adams County in North Dakota.

Future improvements include a planned annexation of land for a new multi-million dollar grocery store and truck stop on the west side and new street lights along Highway 12 through town.
