ST. LOUIS (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in the 2012 fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1M0QG6o ) reports 28-year-old Dewayne J. Strickland Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder and first-degree assault for the death of Aniya Cook on July 31, 2012.

Prosecutors say Cook was sitting in a car with her boyfriend and consoling him about one of his friends who had been fatally shot earlier that day when Strickland and another man shot into the car.

Authorities say Cook was shot in the face. The other man involved in the shooting, 28-year-old Richard C. Reynolds, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
