JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in Will County say a man who was convicted of shooting his uncle to death has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.

In a news release, State’s Attorney James Glasgow says 29-year-old Jason M. Gonzalez of Morris was sentenced on Thursday.

During his trial, prosecutors contended Gonzalez shot 49-year-old Lance Goebel several times in September 2009 during an argument about money at Goebel’s Manhattan Township home. They contended Gonzalez then stole $1,000 and Goebel’s vehicle.

Prosecutors said Gonzalez had been living with Goebel and the slaying occurred shortly after Goebel kicked Gonzalez out of his home.
