NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - Authorities say two young children were hospitalized and one man arrested after the kids were found distressed inside a hot vehicle in a Nampa shopping center.

Police had responded to a report of children left unattended in a car Saturday around 5 p.m. Officers arrived to find two children, both less than 3 years old, in a vehicle with the windows rolled up and in direct sunlight.

Police say the children were transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. They have since been placed in protective custody.

The children’s father, 31-year-old Salvador Navarro Chavalla, has been charged with felony injury to children.
