LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County firefighters credited with controlling a British Airways airplane engine fire are being honored.

The Clark County Commission at its 9 a.m. meeting Tuesday will recognize the firefighters with a proclamation.

A total of 53 firefighters went to the scene on Sept. 8 when the London-bound flight from McCarran International Airport halted during take-off after its left engine caught on fire.

Fire officials have praised the crew for what they called a flawless emergency response.

The fire was contained within minutes.

There were only minor injuries reported to 27 of the 170 passengers and crew members.

Most were cuts, scrapes and bruises from the escape on the Boeing 777’s emergency slides. All were treated and released the same day.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
