SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The former president and CEO of Overstock.com will kick off his run for Utah governor with a party at the company’s headquarters.

Jonathan Johnson is inviting the public to the party in Cottonwood Heights on Tuesday evening.

Johnson still serves as chairman of Overstock.com’s board. He announced last month he would run against Gov. Gary Herbert in 2016. Both are Republicans.

Though he’ll be running against a popular sitting governor with high approval ratings who has already amassed $1.3 million to campaign, Johnson has said he hears from people who are frustrated and thinks Utah can do better.

Johnson has said he plans to focus on improving the state’s education system, making Utah less reliant on federal funding and getting federal lands transferred to state control.
