CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) - Officials say a southern Pennsylvania man has admitted abducting his estranged wife and their two young children in 2014.

Pennlive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1NtPnhT ) 23-year-old Charles Hinton III pleaded guilty Monday to kidnapping and simple assault charges on the day his trial was scheduled to begin in Cumberland County Court.

Police say Hinton went to his wife’s home on North Hanover Street in Carlisle to pick up their children, ages 2 and 1, for visitation.

Hinton’s wife says she noticed the Shippensburg resident had a gun in his waistband and began screaming to her friend.

She says Hinton grabbed her, shoved her inside the car and drove away while turning the gun on her.

Shippensburg police apprehended Hinton after he stopped to take out money.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 6.
