ROSEMEAD, Calif. (AP) - Police say a suspect in the shooting death of a man in Rosemead shot and killed himself as deputies closed in to arrest him.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Abi Ben-Sahille says deputies responded late Tuesday to reports of a man who had been shot in a residential neighborhood.

City News Service reports the 31-year-old victim was found dead in a driveway.

Officials say the suspect, dressed in black, ran from the scene and was chased by deputies.

Ben-Sahille says as deputies prepared to arrest the gunman, he shot himself once in the head.

The suspect, described only as a 32-year-old man, died at the scene.

Officials say a semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

Investigators are trying to determine what led to the first shooting.
