ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - Monroe County deputies arrested a 15-year-old student Wednesday in connection with threats made on social media against a public school campus.

The boy posted threatening comments against the Hamilton Attendance Center on at least one social media site, Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said.

The center’s campus includes both an elementary and a high school.

Cantrell said authorities have not determined what charges the teen will face.

“But this is a very serious offense, and we will bring charges,” he said. “We don’t take these types of threats lightly, especially in light of today’s world where anything could happen and anything is possible.”

WTVA-TV (https://bit.ly/1iwUPFK ) reports the threat contained language about harming people inside the school and at other schools in the district. Deputies responded to Hamilton and the three other schools across the Monroe County School District as a precaution, and school officials dismissed all classes at noon.

Thomas Brahan, an attorney for the teenager, declined comment when contacted late Wednesday. The suspect’s name has not been released because of his age.
