FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) - A 37-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after another man was sucker punched at a suburban Detroit mobile home park and later died.

Farmington Hills police say Wednesday that Dante Nederveld was arraigned Tuesday in the death of 52-year-old Matthew Wegyn.

Police say officers responding to an Aug. 9 fight at the Flamingo Mobile Home Park were speaking with Wegyn when another man “suddenly appeared from behind a car” and punched him in the face. Wegyn fell and struck his head on the pavement. He was hospitalized and died nearly a month later from his injuries.

Nederveld initially was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault. A pre-exam conference is set for Sept. 25.

The Associated Press left a message Wednesday seeking comment from Nederveld’s attorney.
