FAYETTE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 42-year-old man was drunk when his pickup truck plowed into a motorcycle on a Finger Lakes road, killing two people on the bike.

Troopers say Earl Wilson of Romulus was driving on state Route 96A around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday when he crossed the center line and hit a motorcycle head-on in the Seneca County town of Fayette, 35 miles southwest of Syracuse.

The motorcycle was being driven by 49-year-old Steven Lester of Manchester and 47-year-old Patricia Perryman of Canandaigua. Both of the Rochester-area residents were pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Wilson tried to flee the scene on foot but was caught. The charges against him include driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
