ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Humorist Garrison Keillor is preparing to kick off what he says is his final season hosting “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Keillor opens the new season of his public radio variety show Saturday at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul.

Keillor is coming off a 30-city farewell bus tour. The 73-year-old says he plans to step down as host after this season.

Keillor has tapped musician Chris Thile (THEE’-lee) of the bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek to succeed him full time as host in September 2016, following guest-hosting spots.

Singer-songwriter JD McPherson is Keillor’s musical guest this Saturday. McPherson also will perform at the free, annual street dance that follows in front of the Fitzgerald.

The show is sold out but rush tickets are available.
