ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 75 years to life behind bars for the raping a teenage girl in Rochester a day after being released from a state prison.

Michael Caruthers was convicted on April 21 of multiple counts of rape and criminal sex act for his actions on Aug. 23, 2014.

Prosecutors say Caruthers grabbed a 14-year-old girl as she was walking down the street in the area of Rochester’s downtown Liberty Pole and began raping her on the sidewalk. They say Caruthers then dragged the girl to an abandoned building where he continued the assault.

Caruthers was released from a state prison in Watertown in northern New York the day before the attack after serving just over two years for robbery.
