SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) - A group of Air Force sergeants is organizing an event to honor America’s prisoners of war and those missing in action.

A chapter of the Air Force Sergeants Association at Shaw Air Force Base is ending a 24-hour run Friday morning at 9 a.m.

At the conclusion of the event, a moment of silence and a ceremony and flyover by F-16 fighter jets from the 20th Fighter Wing based at Shaw are scheduled.

Former World War II prisoner of war William Pebley will address the group and a wreath-laying is planned.

There are more than 83,000 American service members from conflicts from World War II through the 1991 Persian Gulf War who are still considered missing in action.
